The Best Bedroom Window Treatments
7051134169 • December 20, 2022

Our five favorite window treatments for bedrooms that offer both function and style.

At the end of a long day, there is nothing like being able to unwind in your bedroom. It is often our retreat where we can relax, read, and of course, sleep. But with so many options to choose from, what are the best window treatments for bedrooms?

We’ll be diving into our five favorite window treatments for bedrooms that offer both function and style. Let’s take a look.

1 | Cellular Shades

The cellular shades of today are not your grandmother’s cellular shades! These shades are still one of the most popular choices for window treatments out there and it’s not hard to see why. Today’s cellular shades offer energy efficiency with style. The pocketed, or honeycomb, design traps hot and cold air, keeping your home at the temperature you want year round. You can also choose from a variety of colors and materials to match your existing style.

  • For children’s bedrooms, we recommend choosing cordless cellular shades to eliminate the choking hazard cords pose.
  • Take your functionality up a notch and add on a room darkening or blackout material to them for the best sleep you’ll get in your life!

2 | Blinds

Blinds are another very popular choice and that is because of their amazing functionality. The louvered design gives you full control over light control and privacy. Open the louvers during the day for filtered soft light and close them at night for privacy and light blocking power. Blinds can literally match any home decor style with the seemingly endless options you can choose from, including slat width, color, texture, material and more.

  • For children’s bedrooms, we recommend choosing cordless cellular shades to eliminate the choking hazard cords pose.
  • For the ultimate in durability, opt for faux wood blinds, which won’t fade, warp or crack like real wood blinds. They also give you the look of real wood blinds without the price tag and are easier to clean and maintain!

3 | Roman Shades

Add panache to your room with roman shades. The luxurious, soft folds of fabric add texture and the endless options for fabric, color and pattern can add plenty of style. You may think that roman shades only work for traditional styles, but think again! Roman shades actually have a couple different fold styles that make them great for any home decor style.

  • For modern home decor styles, opt for a flat fold roman shade, which offers more structure.
  • For more traditional styles, choose a soft fold roman shade for a softer look.
  • Add a lining of room darkening or blackout material for the ultimate in privacy and great sleep!
  • For children’s bedrooms, choose a cordless roman shade to eliminate the choking hazard cords pose.

4 | Roller Shades

If your bedroom gets a lot of sun, choose a roller shade. This window treatment is designed to block damaging UV rays and can reduce glare if you like to work on your laptop or watch TV in bed. They come in many different colors and textures as well as weave openness (the more open the weave, the more your view is preserved).

  • Opt for cordless in children’s bedrooms to eliminate the choking hazard that cords pose.
  • For the ultimate in great sleep, choose blackout roller shades.
  • If you want to soften the look of roller shades, try layering them with custom drapes for a more luxurious feel.

5 | Shutters

Shutters aren’t just for traditional home decor styles! The many options for shutters make these a very versatile window covering. You can choose your louver width, color or stain, material (composite vs. real wood), smooth or wood grain texture, plus a suite of operability options, including hidden tilts! They are also the only window treatment to actually add value to your home. Home buyers are willing to ante up more for them because they are so desirable. Plus, they give you great curbside style!

  • For modern homes, choose thinner slat size and a minimalist trim (or hinge only) mount.
  • For more traditional style homes, opt for a wider slat size.
  • For children’s rooms, we recommend adding on locks so young children do not get hurt trying to swing open the shutters.
