3 Window Coverings to Renew Your Home for Spring

Spring is just around the corner and it’s a time when many give their home a refresh with a new coat of paint, switching out seasonal decor, and more. Another great way to refresh your home is with new, designer worthy window treatments.

You may not have given much thought to your window dressings, but tired, old coverings can be a drab and make the rest of your home look untidy and worn. Upgrading to new window coverings in the whole house can bring a sense of newness to all of your rooms and bring additional functionality with a big dose of panache.

Even better is selecting matching window treatments throughout the whole house. This brings a sense of continuity to all of your rooms, leading the eye seamlessly from one room to the next. It also ups your home’s curb appeal as all windows look the same from the outside.

Here are our three favorite designer worthy window treatments to refresh your home this spring.

1 | Wood or Faux Wood Blinds

Both wood and faux wood blinds bring clean lines and warmth to your home. Blinds are perhaps the most popular option for window coverings because you get full privacy and light control due to the louvered design.

Wood and faux wood blinds come in a variety of options of stains and colors, allowing you to match your custom blinds to the wood and colors already in your home. You can also select from different slat widths to match different design styles. Opt for thinner slats for a more modern look and wider slats for homes with traditional design styles.

Whether you choose real or faux, both types of blinds are great options. Faux wood blinds have a wood grain look that brings the realistic warmth of wood, but because of the composite materials that make it up, can withstand high humidity, making them excellent options for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. Real wood is a natural insulator, making real wood blinds a good choice for helping decrease the price of your energy bills. Plus, nothing beats the luxurious feel of real wood!

2 | Interior Shutters

Like blinds, interior shutters offer clean lines and full functionality. However, these are the only window coverings that actually add value to your home! So while they are the most expensive option, they are a great investment as home buyers are willing to pay more for these highly desirable window treatments. And because these treatments are mounted to the inside of your window frame and have a custom fit, they decrease the gaps that hot and cold air can seep through, providing excellent insulation and lowering energy bills.

Interior shutters come in both real and faux wood as well as many different stain and color options. You can also select from a variety of other options, including the number of panels (can also be dictated by the size of your window), separate controls for the upper and lower set of slats, hidden slat control, locking mechanisms, trim, and so much more to create a completely custom look.

Interior shutters are wonderful for all design styles–not just traditional! For modern styles, select simple trim or no trim with thinner slats. For traditional styles, you can opt for wider slats and more decorative trim.

3 | Roman Shades

Roman shades have been well-loved for centuries and for good reason! These fabric shades add a large dose of style for any home decor style. Roman shades come in several different styles of pleats, from highly structured pleats which are fantastic for more modern and transitional styles, to looser and more curved pleats that are perfect for traditional styles.

There are endless fabrics to choose from with custom roman shades, allowing you to choose the perfect color, texture, and pattern for your home. You can also opt for a thermal lining, which is perfect for cold winters or hot and sunny summers, or a room darkening or blackout liner that is great for bedrooms, nurseries, and home theater rooms.
