The higher standard in window coverings
When it comes to selecting new blinds, the question we often get asked is, “real or faux wood?” That answer is different for each of our clients depending on their needs and other factors like room location. To help you make that decision, here are some questions you need to ask yourself so you know which blinds are right for you!
Real wood blinds offer a warmth and beauty to your home that is nearly unmatched. This classic window treatment offers a rich elegance that comes in a variety of stains, including custom matching to the existing wood in your home. You can also select from varying slat widths and opt for cordless.
Faux wood blinds have all the beauty of wood but are made from durable vinyl materials. Just like real wood, you can choose from a variety of colors and slat sizes. You can also opt for cordless and faux wood grain texture.
1 | Which Rooms?
First, it’s important to know which rooms you want to install your new blinds in. Real wood blinds can fade or warp due to humidity and can stain from grease. If you are planning on installing your new blinds in a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room, we recommend going with faux wood blinds to avoid damaging your new window treatment.
2 | Got Young Kids? Pets?
Do you have young kids or plan on having young children? Do you have pets? If so, we recommend opting for faux wood blinds. Not only are they a little more durable, but they are easy to clean. So if that set of blinds in the playroom gets dirty, you can easily soak them in the bathtub without worry.
3 | How Much Time?
Real wood blinds take a little more time in the cleaning and maintenance department. Real wood blinds require regular oiling to keep the wood from drying out and cracking. Unlike faux wood blinds, you also can’t use water to clean your real wood blinds. Faux wood blinds can be hosed off outside or soaked in the tub if needed for easy deep cleaning.
So if you have the time (and you answered no to the first two questions), then go for real wood! But we understand how busy we all get and there’s absolutely no judgment here if you decide that faux wood is the way you want to go.
4 | What’s the Budget?
Finally, consider your budget. Faux wood is more economical than real wood, though you’d be surprised just how affordable real wood blinds are! But if you just can’t see real wood blinds in your budget, don’t worry–faux wood blinds still give you all the beauty of real wood but at an even more affordable cost!
